Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas are considered one of the pinnacles of Western music and culture. For over two centuries, they have enjoyed being center stage in the canon of piano literature.
This program journeys through Beethoven's evolution as a composer of piano sonatas, featuring his first (Opus 2, No.1) and last (Opus 111) sonatas, as well as his popular Pathétique (Opus 13), and Les Adieux (Opus 81a). This exploration of the cycle serves as a reflection of his compositional, personal, and spiritual development.
